Rachael Blackmore to Receive Grand National Legend Distinction

Rachael Blackmore, the trailblazing jockey who etched her name in history by becoming the first woman to claim the Randox Grand National, is set to be inducted as a Grand National Legend in 2026. Following her remarkable victory aboard Minella Times at Aintree in 2021, the now-retired 36-year-old jockey will be formally recognized for her achievement during a ceremony marking the opening day of the Grand National Festival this Thursday. This prestigious honor sees Blackmore join an esteemed group of racing luminaries, including Ginger McCain, Jenny Pitman, and JP McManus, as well as equine icons Red Rum, Tiger Roll, and Aldaniti, in being named a Grand National Legend. The induction ceremony will be held near the newly renamed Blackmore's Bar, which Rachael herself will officially open on Thursday. Reflecting on the distinction, Blackmore stated: "The memory of winning the Randox Grand National on Minella Times at Aintree is forever etched in my mind. To now see my name alongside other Grand National Legends is a tremendous honor, and I feel fortunate to be a part of this legacy. "I'm also excited to launch Blackmore's Bar at the racecourse, an opportunity I never thought I'd have. It's an innovative concept that I hope will enhance the festival experience for attendees." Blackmore announced her retirement from racing in May 2025, culminating a career marked by 575 wins, including 18 victories at the Cheltenham Festival.
