Laura Robson's Grueling London Marathon Prep: From Melbourne to Milan to Miami
Laura Robson, Sky Sports Tennis presenter and former British No 1, has been training tirelessly for the London Marathon, balancing her television commitments with grueling running sessions in various locations around the world, including Melbourne, Milan Cortina, and Miami. Since the start of 2026, Robson has been juggling her role as a television presenter and analyst with her marathon training, adapting to diverse environments, from the scorching heat of Melbourne during the Australian Open to the freezing temperatures of the Winter Olympics and the unpredictable weather of the Miami Open. Now back in the UK, Robson is gearing up for the 26.2-mile challenge, which will take her through iconic London landmarks such as the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, and Canary Wharf, before culminating in a grand finish on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. "Training for the London Marathon has been brutal," Robson confessed upon her return from the Winter Olympics. "I'm not sure why people put themselves through this, but I'm determined to push through. My goal is to finish under 3 hours and 40 minutes, although my Garmin and Strava suggest I have the potential to achieve a sub-3:30 time." Robson has been creative with her training, utilizing treadmills and running in the snow while in Australia and Italy. However, since returning home, she has found it challenging to maintain her motivation, as the familiarity of her surroundings has made it easier to skip training sessions. To prepare for the marathon, Robson has adopted a carb-rich diet and increased her electrolyte intake to ensure proper hydration. She has also sought advice from fellow athletes, including Padel players, on how to pace herself during the marathon. Robson's training has been largely solitary due to her work commitments, but she is looking forward to the electric atmosphere of the London Marathon. Having experienced it firsthand while supporting a friend last year, she is eager to be a part of it this time around. As she approaches her final week of intense training before tapering off, Robson is excited to reach the finish line and put an end to her rigorous training regimen. She is running in support of the Give It Your Max charity, which provides free tennis lessons and breakfast clubs for children in schools.
