DeChambeau Eager to Revive McIlroy Rivalry at The Masters

Bryson DeChambeau is looking forward to competing against Rory McIlroy at The Masters, following a valuable learning experience from last year's tournament. Last year, DeChambeau briefly led during the final round but ultimately finished tied for fifth place after a three-over 75, while McIlroy claimed the win to complete the career Grand Slam. DeChambeau previously stated that McIlroy did not speak to him during their final-round duel, but McIlroy has since denied this claim in a documentary. DeChambeau expressed his enthusiasm for a potential rivalry with McIlroy, saying, 'It's great if we can continue to have a rivalry... I don't see any problem with that. If anything, it kind of helps create more buzz around the game of golf.' He also acknowledged his respect for McIlroy as an individual, while also wanting to beat him every time they compete. DeChambeau reflected on last year's loss as a 'great learning lesson,' which has given him perspective on leading or being tied for the lead in the final round. He hopes to put himself in similar positions again and is confident in his current form, having played well in recent LIV Golf League events. Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley believes DeChambeau's presence in the final round last year may have helped McIlroy complete the Grand Slam, as it forced McIlroy to focus and get into the right mindset.
