Skelton Savors 'Unbelievable' Trainers' Championship Victory

Dan Skelton expressed his elation after securing the championship title, a feat that has been elusive to him in the past two seasons. The Alcester-based trainer had previously been overtaken by Willie Mullins on the final day, but this season, Skelton dominated from the start, becoming the first to surpass £4 million in prize money. "It's truly remarkable. We've worked tirelessly over the years to get close, only for Willie to edge us out at the last minute. But it's fantastic to have finally achieved it," Skelton said, with his current season total standing at £4,762,920 following a stellar Grand National Festival. "This accomplishment is a testament to the entire team's hard work and dedication this year. We're thrilled with the performance of everyone involved. "Our horses have been outstanding, and I must extend my gratitude to the staff and, most importantly, the owners who have supported me and contributed to our success. "It's an incredible feeling - we're passionate about what we do, and it's an absolute pleasure to have crossed the finish line." In recent years, Skelton has faced intense competition from Mullins in the final weeks of the season. However, with limited Closutton representation in the remaining two weekends, Skelton's path to victory is now clear. Mullins, who trails Skelton by £2,094,034, conceded defeat and congratulated Skelton on his Grand National win with I Am Maximus. With the title now secured, Skelton can bask in the glory of his achievement ahead of receiving the trophy at Sandown Park on April 25.
