Australian coach John Cartwright has expressed his feelings of betrayal and disrespect following his exit from Hull FC. The club announced on April 7 that Cartwright would be departing at the end of the current Betfred Super League season, but he claims he was not provided with an explanation. Cartwright, 60, revealed that he was informed the club had decided to part ways with him and exercise a six-month termination clause in his contract.
Despite his efforts to seek clarification, he remains in the dark about the reasons behind the decision. Speaking to reporters, Cartwright stated, 'When people know the facts, they can make their own judgment. For me, I feel a little betrayed and disrespected.' Cartwright took the reins at the MKM Stadium at the beginning of the 2025 campaign, guiding the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020.
The club has already initiated the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season and currently sits ninth in the Super League standings with three wins and four defeats from their first seven matches. Cartwright has pledged to continue performing his duties without compromising his professionalism, emphasizing his loyalty to the players.
He admitted that the news caught him off guard, saying, 'It took me totally by surprise. If you lose six in a row, you might expect something, but there was none of that.'
