Joel Tomkins leaves Catalans Dragons due to personal circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his departure from his position as head coach at Catalans Dragons, a role he had held for nearly a year, citing personal reasons. The former England international, who played both rugby league and union, found the time spent away from his family to be particularly challenging. Following a recent period at home, Tomkins made the decision to step down after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sitting sixth in the standings. Tomkins initially took on the role as an interim coach after Steve McNamara's departure but was soon appointed as the permanent head coach at the club where he spent the latter part of his playing career. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experience and friendships gained during his time at Catalans Dragons, acknowledging that he has grown both personally and professionally. However, the strain of living away from his family for an extended period ultimately led to his decision to leave the club. With Tomkins absent from the last three fixtures, speculation arose about his potential exit. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will assume the role of interim head coach, starting with the upcoming game against the Warrington Wolves on April 18.
