Nasser Hussain Urges Ben Stokes to Reclaim His Batting Form

Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes that current Test captain Ben Stokes must rediscover his batting form in order to lead the team effectively. Hussain's comments came during an appearance on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, where he discussed England's recent struggles under the leadership of Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. England has failed to win a five-match series against top-tier teams like Australia and India since Stokes and McCullum took charge in 2022. Hussain acknowledges that Stokes had a disappointing Ashes series, averaging just 18.40 with the bat, and has since been sidelined with a groin injury. However, Hussain insists that Stokes has the potential to be an excellent captain, citing his exceptional leadership skills, tactical acumen, and man-management abilities. To regain his footing, Hussain advises Stokes to focus on his own game and start scoring runs, emphasizing that the captain's primary goal should be to deliver results through runs, wickets, and catches. With England currently ranked seventh in the ICC World Test Championship standings, Stokes is poised to miss the first month of the County Championship season as he recovers from facial surgery, but is expected to return for fixtures in May.
