Tom Watson Criticizes PGA Tour's Decision to Welcome Back LIV Golf Defectors

Golf legend Tom Watson has spoken out against the PGA Tour's decision to allow players who defected to the LIV Golf League to return, citing a perceived broken promise. The PGA Tour recently introduced a programme offering a path back for a select group of top performers, with Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed taking advantage of the opportunity. Koepka made a $5m charitable donation as part of his reinstatement, while Reed will return after serving a one-year suspension. Watson expressed his disappointment, stating that he believes players who left for LIV Golf should be banned for life or required to play on the Korn Ferry Tour for a year to regain their PGA Tour eligibility. The returning players' decision to leave the PGA Tour initially was seen as a breach of the tour's rules, which prioritize protecting sponsors. However, the PGA Tour has chosen to welcome them back, with Reed citing his desire to compete against the best players in the world as his reason for returning.
