Robson's Grueling London Marathon Prep: From Melbourne to Miami
Laura Robson, a former British No 1 and current Sky Sports Tennis presenter, has been training tirelessly for the London Marathon, set to take place in April. Her preparation has taken her to various locations, including Melbourne, Milan Cortina, and Miami, where she has had to adapt to diverse climates and environments. Despite the challenges, Robson has been dedicated to her training, often relying on treadmills and running in the snow. Now back in the UK, she is focused on the final stages of her preparation, which includes a 26.2-mile run through iconic London landmarks. Robson has expressed the difficulties of her training, stating, 'I am training for the London Marathon and it's brutal! I don't know why people do this.' She aims to achieve a sub-3:40 finish time, although her Garmin and Strava suggest she may be capable of a sub-3:30. To aid her performance, Robson has been consuming a diet rich in carbs, including rice, and increasing her electrolyte intake to ensure proper hydration. She has also sought advice from fellow athletes, including Padel players, on how to maintain a consistent marathon pace. Robson's training has been largely solo due to her work commitments, but she is looking forward to the supportive atmosphere of the London Marathon, having experienced it firsthand when she watched the event last year. As she enters her final week of intense training before tapering off, Robson is excited to complete the marathon and support her chosen charity, Give It Your Max, which provides free tennis lessons and after-school programs for children.
