Billam-Smith Sets Sights on Opetaia After Joining Zuffa
Following his signing with Zuffa Boxing, Chris Billam-Smith is now focused on facing Jai Opetaia to solidify his position as the world's best, with his fights to be broadcast live on Sky Sports. Billam-Smith previously held the WBO cruiserweight world title from May 2023 to November 2024, losing it to Gilberto Ramirez, but bounced back with a win over Brandon Glanton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Opetaia, also a Zuffa fighter, recently became the inaugural Zuffa world cruiserweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Glanton. Billam-Smith expressed his desire to face Opetaia, stating that they are two of the biggest names in the cruiserweight division and both being under the same promoter increases the likelihood of the fight happening. He believes that signing with Zuffa will provide him with the opportunity to prove himself as the best in the world by beating the best, with Opetaia being at the top of his list. Having not fought in over a year, Billam-Smith has been in training since January and is looking to announce his next fight soon, with the goal of getting back in the ring and eventually fighting in the UK.
