Chelsea to Face Manchester City in Semi-Finals of Women's FA Cup
Defending Women's FA Cup champions Chelsea have secured a semi-final spot against Women's Super League leaders Manchester City. The Blues advanced to the last four with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Kingsmeadow. Manchester City then joined them in the semi-finals, earning a hard-fought 1-0 win against Birmingham, thanks to a goal from Khadija Shaw. Liverpool will host Brighton in the other semi-final, with both teams emerging victorious from their quarter-final matches on Sunday. The semi-final matches are scheduled for the weekend of May 9/10, preceding the final on May 31. Chelsea's win over Tottenham was sealed by a stunning late strike from 19-year-old Veerle Buurman, who scored in the 86th minute. The visitors had earlier equalized through Eveliina Summanen's cross, which deceived Hannah Hampton, after Sam Kerr's header put Chelsea ahead before the interval. Manchester City's victory over Birmingham was courtesy of Shaw's goal, set up by Iman Beney's fine ball, with the second-tier leaders putting up a brave fight despite City coming close to scoring a second, with Lucy Thomas making a brilliant save to deny Yui Hasegawa.
