Aspinall Claims German Darts Grand Prix Title with 8-5 Win Over Noppert

Nathan Aspinall emerged victorious in the German Darts Grand Prix, claiming his fourth European Tour title with a hard-fought 8-5 win over Danny Noppert in the final. Aspinall, who had previously won three European Tour titles in 2025, made a triumphant return to form in Munich, overcoming a spirited challenge from Noppert to take home the £35,000 top prize. The Stockport star produced a remarkable comeback, winning four consecutive legs from 5-4 down to seal the win, averaging 100.35 and hitting seven 180s to thwart Noppert's bid for his first European Tour crown. Aspinall's path to victory began with a narrow escape against Ricardo Pietreczko on Sunday, before he accounted for Pietreczko's World Cup partner Martin Schindler on the final day. He then defeated Andrew Gilding in the quarter-finals, backed up by a stunning performance in the semi-finals, where he averaged 106.40 to demolish Kevin Doets and end a sequence of six successive defeats against the Dutchman. The win set up a thrilling showdown against Noppert, with Aspinall initially appearing poised to cruise to victory after taking a 4-1 lead. However, Noppert mounted an unlikely comeback, winning four straight legs to seize the initiative. Aspinall responded with legs of 13, 12, and 15 darts to lead 7-5, before converting a clinical 128 checkout to cap off a brilliant display. 'I am absolutely buzzing,' Aspinall admitted, after equalling Phil Taylor's haul of four European Tour titles. 'I've had a lot of knockbacks this year, but nights like tonight are why we play this game.' Aspinall's victory marked a return to form for the former World Matchplay champion, who had been struggling to find motivation earlier in the year. The German Darts Grand Prix win has given Aspinall a much-needed boost, and he will look to carry this momentum into his future tournaments. The BetMGM Premier League season continues with Night 10 in Brighton on Thursday, featuring an all-Dutch showdown between Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen, as well as matches between Luke Humphries and Jonny Clayton, Gerwyn Price and Josh Rock, and Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting.
