Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed feelings of betrayal and disrespect following the announcement of his exit from the club. The news, revealed on April 7, stated that Cartwright would be leaving at the end of the current Betfred Super League season.
Despite the announcement, Cartwright claims he has yet to receive an explanation for the decision. In a statement to reporters, Cartwright mentioned that the club had chosen to part ways, exercising a six-month termination clause, without providing a reason. Cartwright, who took the helm at the start of the 2025 campaign, led the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020.
He stated that he will continue to perform his duties and maintain his bond with the players. The club has begun the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season, with Cartwright's departure coming as a surprise, given the team's current ninth-place standing in the Super League.
