Billam-Smith Sets Sights on Opetaia After Signing with Zuffa Boxing
Following his signing with Zuffa Boxing, Chris Billam-Smith has expressed his desire to face Jai Opetaia, aiming to solidify his position as the world's best. Billam-Smith, a former WBO cruiserweight world titleholder, is set to fight live on Sky Sports. He previously held the title from May 2023 to November 2024 before losing it to Gilberto Ramirez, but bounced back with a win over Brandon Glanton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Opetaia, also a Zuffa fighter, recently became the inaugural Zuffa world cruiserweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Glanton. Billam-Smith believes that a fight between the two is inevitable, given their status as top names in the cruiserweight division and their shared promoter. He stated, 'We're two of the biggest names in the cruiserweight division. We're both signed under the same promoter.' Billam-Smith is eager to prove himself as the best in the world by defeating the best opponents, and he sees a fight against Opetaia as a key opportunity to do so. With a multi-fight deal with Zuffa, Billam-Smith is poised to make his return to the ring after a year-long absence, having been in training camp since January.
