Smith Makes Impressive Comeback with Century in Surrey's Draw

Jamie Smith made a remarkable recovery from his struggles in the Ashes series with a century that helped Surrey secure a draw in their opening County Championship match against Warwickshire. Smith, who had a disappointing winter tour of Australia with an average of 23.44 in five Tests, reminded England selectors of his skills with a 132-run innings at number three in Surrey's second innings total of 447-4 at Edgbaston. Surrey still trailed by 47 runs with three wickets down at the start of day four, following Warwickshire's massive first-innings total of 544, but Smith's century, combined with Dan Lawrence's exceptional 161, ensured the match ended in a stalemate. The duo put on 217 runs for the fourth wicket. Elsewhere in Division One, Somerset and Nottinghamshire played out a draw at Taunton, while Glamorgan and Yorkshire drew in Cardiff, and Sussex secured a win at Leicestershire. Tawanda Muyeye hit an unbeaten 109 as Kent reached stumps on 254-5. Worcestershire also held on for a draw at Derbyshire, closing on 314-7 after being forced to follow on, with England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir claiming 1-55 from his 27 overs.
