Hull FC Announces John Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club when the 2026 Super League season concludes. Cartwright was appointed to his position prior to the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh. Currently, they are ranked ninth in the 2026 table, having secured three wins and four losses after seven rounds. Under his leadership, the team has played 39 games, winning 19 of them. Although his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2027 season, the club has decided to release him a year early. Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, expressed his gratitude to Cartwright for his role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Following the announcement of his departure, the players reportedly chose not to participate in a scheduled training session, seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of finding a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates in due course. It has been reported that they have approached Steve McNamara, the former head coach of Catalans Dragons and current assistant coach at Warrington Wolves, who previously played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996.
