David Warner Faces Drunk Driving Charges in Sydney

According to reports, Australian cricket great David Warner has been charged with drunk driving in Sydney. On Sunday night, New South Wales police conducted a random breath test in Maroubra, Sydney, and pulled over a 39-year-old individual. The initial breath test yielded a positive result, which was later confirmed by a second test at the police station. A statement from the New South Wales Police revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm on April 5, when officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van allegedly stopped short of the testing site and parked, prompting officers to approach the vehicle and administer a roadside test, which returned a positive result. The driver, a 39-year-old man, was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly registered a reading of 0.104. Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 to address charges related to a 'middle-range' prescribed concentration of alcohol offense. This development comes as Warner is set to captain the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, with the final match taking place on May 3 in Lahore. Having retired from international cricket in 2024, Warner continues to participate in franchise cricket. It remains unclear whether he will participate in the upcoming game against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, despite initially being granted time at home over Easter.
