Glasgow's Champions Cup Hopes Shattered by Toulon in Quarter-Final

Glasgow Warriors' bid to reach their first Investec Champions Cup semi-final was dashed as they suffered a narrow 22-19 defeat at the hands of RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite being favourites due to their strong home record and Toulon's domestic struggles, Franco Smith's side fell short. The three-time European champions Toulon edged the match with four tries to Glasgow's three, setting up a semi-final clash against either Leinster or Sale. Glasgow made a late change before the game, replacing Max Williamson with Macenzzie Duncan on the bench. The home side took the lead early on, with Alex Samuel and Ben Afshar combining to send Stafford McDowall over for the first try. However, Toulon quickly responded through Jeremy Sinzelle, who received a long pass from Ben White and moved the ball to Gael Drean for the score. A trademark run by Kyle Steyn put Glasgow back in Toulon territory, but Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. After Junior Kpoku was shown a yellow card for Toulon's ill-discipline, Glasgow capitalized on the extra man, with McDowall picking out Ollie Smith for a brilliant try. The hosts soon found themselves on the back foot, and Jean-Baptiste Gros scored a converted try to level the score at 12-12. Toulon took the lead for the first time through Melvyn Jaminet's pass to Drean, who used his pace to score his second try. Glasgow regained the lead in the second half, with Gregor Hiddleston stretching for the line, but Toulon eventually broke through when Nacho Brex burst through to score. The Warriors had one last chance to get back in front, but Toulon forced the turnover to seal the win. In another quarter-final match, Leinster Rugby trounced Sale Sharks 43-13, booking their place in the semi-finals against Toulon. Leinster got off to a perfect start, with Dan Sheehan crashing over for a try, and they went on to score six tries, including efforts from Hugo Keenan, Ryan Baird, Rieko Ioane, Tommy O'Brien, and Jamie Osborne.
