Exeter Clinch Thrilling Victory Over Benetton

A dramatic late penalty kick by Henry Slade propelled Exeter to a nail-biting 44-41 win over Benetton, securing their spot in the Challenge Cup semi-finals against Ulster in Belfast. The hosts had taken the lead with 15 minutes remaining, thanks to Jacob Umaga's try, but Slade's precision kicking allowed Exeter to level the score and eventually snatch victory, much to the dismay of the home crowd. The first half was a frenetic affair, with Exeter establishing a 14-7 lead courtesy of Olly Woodburn's score and a penalty try. They further extended their advantage to 24-14 after Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try and Slade's conversion and penalty. However, Benetton staged a remarkable comeback, with Onisi Ratave's outstanding try and Umaga's conversion and penalty leveling the score at the break. The second half saw Exeter regain the lead through Harvey Skinner's converted try, only for Bautista Bernasconi to drag Benetton back level. The visitors then surged ahead 38-31 when Andrea Zambonin crossed over from short range in the 48th minute. Umaga's second penalty and subsequent try, which he converted, handed Benetton their first lead since the eighth minute, but Slade's decisive kicking ultimately sealed the win for Exeter. In another quarter-final match, reigning Investec Champions Cup champions Bordeaux overcame Toulouse 30-15 to set up a semi-final clash with Bath. Toulouse had made a strong start at Stade Chaban-Delmas, but Bordeaux's resilient defense held firm until Maxime Lamothe powered over from a maul in the 23rd minute. The visitors responded immediately from the restart, with Yoram Moefana failing to catch the kick-off and Romain Ntamack eventually darting in on the right. A late first-half stoppage occurred after Toulouse prop Dorian Aldegheri made contact with Damian Penaud's head while he was kicking the ball, resulting in a 20-minute red card for the high-danger challenge. Despite this setback, Toulouse took the lead into the break courtesy of a sweeping passing move that sent Teddy Thomas racing clear down the right. Bordeaux rallied in the second half, with Matthieu Jalibert collecting his own kick through before diving over. Toulouse were then briefly reduced to 13 men when Antoine Dupont was yellow-carded for a trip in the 56th minute. Bordeaux seized control of the tie when Ben Tameifuna barged over and Maxime Lucu landed a long-range penalty just after the hour. Any hopes of a Toulouse comeback were extinguished with six minutes remaining, as Arthur Retiere touched down Bordeaux's fourth try in the corner before Lucu slotted over another penalty.
