Katie Boulter's Clay-Court Campaign Begins with Early Defeat

British tennis player Katie Boulter experienced a disappointing start to her clay-court season, falling in the first round of the Linz Open in Austria. Her opponent, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, secured a hard-fought victory in straight sets, 7-6 (6-3) 7-6 (6-2). Boulter struggled initially, losing her first two service games, but managed to level the score at 4-4 in the opening set. However, Ruse gained the upper hand in the tie-breaker. In the second set, Boulter was broken after taking a 3-2 lead and, despite saving a match point, ultimately lost the tie-breaker. Ruse will now face either Dayana Yastremska or Ann Li in the next round. The loss marks a tough beginning to Boulter's 2026 clay-court campaign.
