Chelsea Secures Semi-Final Spot in Women's FA Cup, to Face Manchester City
Reigning Women's FA Cup champions Chelsea are set to host Women's Super League leaders Manchester City in the semi-finals after edging out Tottenham 2-1 at Kingsmeadow. Chelsea's victory was sealed with a stunning late goal from Veerle Buurman, securing their spot in the last four. Manchester City also advanced to the semi-finals, defeating Birmingham 1-0 with a goal from Khadija Shaw. The other semi-final match will feature Liverpool against Brighton, with both teams having won their quarter-final matches on Sunday. The semi-final matches are scheduled to take place on the weekend of May 9/10, leading up to the final on May 31. Chelsea's win was marked by Buurman's fierce strike in the 86th minute, overcoming a disappointing season. The match saw Eveliina Summanen's cross level the score in the second half, following Sam Kerr's initial goal for Chelsea. Manchester City's victory over Birmingham was secured with Shaw's goal, assisted by Iman Beney's fine ball. Despite Birmingham's brave efforts, Manchester City came closest to scoring a second goal, with Yui Hasegawa's shot being turned against the bar by goalkeeper Lucy Thomas.
