Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

Hull FC's head coach, John Cartwright, is set to leave the club following the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh, and currently sits ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. With 39 games under his belt, Cartwright has secured 19 wins. Initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, the club has opted to release him from his contract a year early. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness on the field during his tenure. The board has expressed gratitude for Cartwright's contributions, and he will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season. However, it has been reported that the players chose not to participate in a scheduled training session after being informed of Cartwright's departure. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates in due course. Notably, Hull FC has reportedly approached former Catalans Dragons head coach and current Warrington Wolves assistant coach, Steve McNamara, who previously played for the Black and Whites from 1989 to 1996.
