Dan Skelton has expressed his thrill at finally clinching the champion trainer title after it became impossible for him to be overtaken. The Alcester-based trainer had previously seen the title slip away from him on the final day of the previous two seasons, but this season he dominated from the start, becoming the first trainer to surpass £4million in prize money. "It's truly amazing; we've worked tirelessly over the past few years to get close, and Willie Mullins has narrowly beaten us in the past, but it's fantastic to have finally achieved it," Skelton said, whose current total stands at £4,762,920 for the season following an impressive Grand National Festival. "It's a testament to the entire team's efforts this year. We're thrilled with how everyone has performed. The horses have been outstanding and consistent, and I must thank the staff, but most of all, the owners who have supported me and helped us reach this position. It's incredible - we're passionate about what we do, and it's an absolute pleasure to have crossed the finish line." Skelton had previously faced a strong challenge from Mullins in the concluding weeks of the season, but with Mullins' representation set to be limited in the final two weekends, Skelton is poised to enjoy a victory parade ahead of receiving the trophy at Sandown Park on April 25. Mullins, who trails Skelton by £2,094,034, congratulated Skelton on his victory, paving the way for the Lodge Hill handler to savor his success after tasting Grade One glory with several winners during the Grand National Festival.
