Britain on Verge of Billie Jean King Cup Victory
Mika Stojsavljevic, ranked 275th in the world, made a stunning debut in the Billie Jean King Cup, defeating world No 65 Talia Gibson 7-6 (7-4) 7-5. This impressive victory, along with Harriet Dart's win over Kiimberly Birrell, has put a depleted Great Britain team on the brink of winning the tie against Australia in Melbourne. Stojsavljevic, the 2024 US Open junior champion, gave her team a perfect start in the qualifiers, overcoming a 219-place difference in the WTA rankings. Dart then battled back to win her match, leaving Britain requiring just one more win from the remaining three matches to qualify for the finals in Shenzhen, China. The team, led by Anne Keothavong, is looking to progress despite the absence of key players Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Katie Boulter, and Fran Jones.
