Chelsea Secures Semi-Final Spot in Women's FA Cup, Set to Face Manchester City
Reigning Women's FA Cup champions Chelsea have booked a semi-final clash with Women's Super League leaders Manchester City after defeating Tottenham 2-1 at Kingsmeadow. Chelsea's victory sets the stage for a thrilling encounter against Manchester City, who narrowly beat Championship side Birmingham 1-0 courtesy of Khadija Shaw's goal. The other semi-final will feature Liverpool hosting Brighton, following their respective quarter-final wins on Sunday. The semi-final matches are scheduled to take place on the weekend of May 9/10, with the final slated for May 31. Chelsea's winning goal was scored by 19-year-old Veerle Buurman, who netted a stunning late strike in the 86th minute to overcome Spurs. Earlier, Eveliina Summanen's cross had leveled the score for the visitors in the second half, after Sam Kerr's header put Chelsea ahead before the interval. Manchester City's win over Birmingham was sealed by Shaw's goal in the eighth minute, following a fine ball from Iman Beney. The second-tier leaders fought hard to stay in the game, but City came closest to scoring a second, with Lucy Thomas making a brilliant save to deny Yui Hasegawa's stinging shot.
