Forest Secure Draw Against Porto Following Unconventional Own Goal

Nottingham Forest battled to a 1-1 draw against Porto in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final, thanks in part to a bizarre own goal. Porto took an early lead when William Gomes scored, but their advantage was short-lived as Martim Fernandes inadvertently scored at the other end just two minutes later. The own goal shifted the momentum in Forest's favor, allowing them to largely contain their opponents for the remainder of the match. Forest manager Vitor Pereira made several changes to his lineup in anticipation of a crucial Premier League match against Aston Villa, including a first start in nine months for striker Chris Wood. Despite being outplayed for much of the game, Forest held on for a draw, with the home side's closest chance to retake the lead coming when Stefan Ortega saved a well-struck shot from Gomes. Forest may have even won the match if not for a disallowed goal from Igor Jesus, ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee for a foul on Diogo Costa. The result leaves the tie open ahead of the second leg at the City Ground, where Forest will look to advance to a potential all-English semi-final against Villa.
