New Policy Prohibits Transgender Women from Competing in Female Darts Tournaments

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has announced a revised policy, stating that only biological females will be allowed to participate in women's darts tournaments. This decision follows a comprehensive review of its Trans and Gender Diverse Policy, which included a report by a developmental biologist and consideration of legal advice and recent court rulings. As a result, transgender females, including Noa-Lynn van Leuven, a six-time title winner on the women's tour, will no longer be eligible to compete in women's events. Van Leuven expressed her disappointment, calling the decision 'another huge hit for the trans community.' However, the DRA emphasized its commitment to inclusivity, allowing all players to participate in open tournaments, regardless of their biological sex, legal sex, or gender identity. The new Eligibility Policy and Rules will be implemented across affiliated organizations, including the PDC, and will be reviewed annually or as needed.
