Durham Cricket Ground Suffers Damage from Storm Dave

A severe storm, known as Storm Dave, has caused significant damage to Durham's cricket stadium, resulting in the cancellation of the third day of the County Championship Division Two match against Kent. Strong winds toppled a scaffolding platform and damaged fencing, while a wheeled cover was blown into the stands. The wet pitch, which was left unprotected from the rain due to the covers being blown away, made it impossible for the match to proceed. Spectators were initially told to stay away but were later allowed back into the stadium. The visiting team's coach described the scene as resembling a 'war scene' due to the extensive damage. Storm Dave has brought heavy rain, snow, and gale-force winds to parts of the UK, with yellow warnings in place in several areas. The match between Durham and Kent has been abandoned, with Durham currently leading by 221 runs in their second innings. The stadium is scheduled to host several senior England matches this summer, including a women's ODI against New Zealand and men's games against India and Sri Lanka.
