Smith Recovers from Ashes Setback with Impressive Century for Surrey

Jamie Smith made a remarkable comeback from his struggles in the winter Ashes series in Australia, scoring a century to help Surrey secure a draw in their County Championship season opener against Warwickshire. Smith, who averaged just 23.44 in the five Tests in Australia, reminded England selectors of his abilities with a 132-run knock at No 3 in Surrey's second-innings total of 447-4 at Edgbaston. Despite still trailing by 47 runs with three wickets down at the start of day four, following Warwickshire's massive first-innings total of 544, Smith's century and Dan Lawrence's sublime 161 ensured the match ended in a stalemate. Durham ran out of time to force a win over Kent after losing the third day's play to Storm Dave, declaring on 218-9 with a lead of 356. They removed Zak Crawley for 20 but finished five wickets short. Tawanda Muyeye hit an unbeaten 109 as Kent reached stumps on 254-5. Worcestershire also held on for a draw at Derbyshire, closing on 314-7 after being forced to follow on, with England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir claiming 1-55 from his 27 overs.
