Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be parting ways with the club at the conclusion of the current Super League season. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh, and currently sits ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. With a contract initially set to expire at the end of the 2027 season, the club has opted to release him a year early. Cartwright has overseen 39 games, securing 19 wins. Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, expressed gratitude for Cartwright's role in stabilizing and making the team competitive. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Following the announcement, players reportedly skipped a training session, seeking communication from officials regarding the decision. The club is actively seeking a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates soon. There are reports that former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, currently an assistant coach at Warrington Wolves, has been approached as a potential replacement. McNamara previously played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996.
