A powerful storm has caused significant damage to the Durham cricket stadium, forcing the abandonment of the third day of the County Championship Division Two match against Kent. The severe weather, brought by Storm Dave, resulted in a scaffolding platform being blown down and fencing being damaged, while a portable cover was blown into the stands. The storm also left the pitch waterlogged, making it impossible for play to resume. Spectators were initially told to stay away due to safety concerns but were later allowed to return, only to witness no play. The visiting coach, Adam Hollioake, described the scene as resembling a 'war scene' due to the extensive damage and waterlogging. The storm has brought heavy rain, snow, and strong winds to parts of the UK, with yellow warnings in place in several areas.
