FA Cup Semi-Finals: Chelsea to Face Leeds, Manchester City to Take on Southampton
The stage is set for the FA Cup semi-finals, with Chelsea set to clash with Leeds United and Manchester City facing off against Southampton. Leeds United secured their spot in the semi-finals for the first time in nearly four decades after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over West Ham, and they will now meet Chelsea at Wembley. Chelsea had earlier crushed League One side Port Vale 7-0. Meanwhile, Manchester City, who defeated Liverpool 4-0 to reach the final four for the eighth consecutive season, will go up against Southampton. The Championship side caused an upset by beating Premier League leaders Arsenal 2-1 at St Mary's. The semi-final matches are scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium on either April 25 or April 26. For Southampton, who last won the FA Cup 50 years ago, the task will be to prevent City from reaching the final for the fourth successive season. City, seven-time winners of the FA Cup, last lifted the trophy in 2023 and have suffered defeats in their last two finals. Chelsea, who have not won the FA Cup since 2018, will be looking to overcome their 1970 final opponents, Leeds. The London club emerged victorious in that encounter after a replay. Leeds bounced back from that defeat to win the FA Cup in 1972 but have not progressed beyond the semi-final stage since 1987.
