Lincoln City Achieves Historic Promotion to Championship After 65 Years

For the first time in 65 years, Lincoln City has secured a spot in the Championship, achieving this milestone with five games to spare following a thrilling 2-1 victory at Reading. The winning goal, scored by Jack Moylan in stoppage time, marked a remarkable comeback for the Imps, who were playing non-League football just nine years ago. Under the guidance of Michael Skubala, Lincoln City has been on an incredible run, remaining unbeaten in 24 matches and currently sitting 12 points above second-placed Cardiff in League One. This promotion makes Lincoln the first team in the EFL to earn a spot in the second tier this season. The team's 27 wins in League One this term are the most since the 1975/76 and 1951/52 campaigns, with 32 and 30 victories, respectively. Needing only a point to secure their return to the second tier, the Imps started strong, with Ryan One scoring in the fifth minute. Although Reading equalized in the second minute of stoppage time through a Lewis Wing free-kick, Moylan's goal four minutes later sealed the win for Lincoln. The Imps' well-organized defense was able to withstand Reading's attacks, with the home team unable to make any significant headway. Lincoln's victory not only marks their return to the Championship but also deals a blow to Reading's play-off hopes. Manager Michael Skubala expressed his pride in the team's achievement, stating that they are now focused on winning the title.
