Brundle: Russell Must Regard Antonelli as a Formidable Title Rival

According to Martin Brundle, George Russell should view his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli as a significant threat, akin to Lewis Hamilton at the height of his career, as the two drivers engage in an emerging title battle. Mercedes has dominated the start of the season, securing victories in the first three races. However, it is Antonelli who surprisingly holds a nine-point lead over Russell. The 19-year-old Italian has benefited from fortunate circumstances, including the timing of a safety car at the Japanese Grand Prix, which enabled him to overtake Russell and claim his second consecutive win. Russell, who was considered the clear title favorite before the season began, must now reassess his approach given Antonelli's impressive performance. Brundle noted that Russell should be more concerned after three races than he was at the start of the season, emphasizing the need for Russell to treat Antonelli as a serious championship contender, much like he would have treated Lewis Hamilton in his prime.
