Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club following the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright was appointed at the beginning of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh, and currently sits ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. Having overseen 39 games and secured 19 wins, Cartwright was initially contracted until the end of the 2027 season, but the club has opted to release him a year early. According to Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, Cartwright played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team, and the board expresses its gratitude for his contributions. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the full support of the club. However, it has been reported that the players chose not to participate in a scheduled training session after being informed of Cartwright's departure and are seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of securing a head coach for the 2027 season and will provide an update soon. There are reports that Hull FC has formally approached Steve McNamara, the former head coach of Catalans Dragons and current assistant coach of Warrington Wolves, to take over the position. McNamara previously played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996.
