David Warner Faces Drink Driving Charges in Sydney

Renowned Australian cricketer David Warner has allegedly been charged with driving while intoxicated in Sydney. New South Wales law enforcement officials confirmed that a 39-year-old individual was stopped on Sunday evening in Maroubra, Sydney, during a random breathalyzer test. The initial test yielded a positive result, and a subsequent test conducted at the police station also returned a positive outcome. According to a statement released by the New South Wales Police, 'At approximately 5:30 pm today, police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was observed allegedly stopping short of the testing site and parking. Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and administered roadside testing to the driver, a 39-year-old male, which returned a positive result. He was taken into custody and transported to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly yielded a reading of 0.104.' Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 to address charges related to a 'middle-range' prescribed concentration of alcohol offense, which coincides with the Pakistan Super League final on May 3 in Lahore. Following his retirement from international cricket in 2024, Warner continues to participate in franchise cricket and is currently captaining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. It had been reported that he was granted time at home over Easter but was expected to rejoin his team prior to their match against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday; however, it remains unclear whether he will participate in the upcoming fixture.
