In a remarkable turnaround, Rangers recovered from a two-goal deficit to defeat Falkirk 6-3, keeping their Scottish Premiership title aspirations intact with five matches remaining. The visitors, led by Danny Röhl, began the day in third place following victories by Hearts and Celtic on Saturday. However, their prospects seemed to worsen when Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats gave the Bairns a 2-0 lead. Tochi Chukwanui narrowed the gap before halftime, and a blistering start to the second half saw Rangers take a 3-2 lead thanks to goals from Yousssef Chermiti and Nico Raskin.
Rangers increased the tempo, with Bojan Miovski adding a fourth goal before Falkirk's Calvin Miller scored their third from the penalty spot after James Tavernier brought down Filip Lissah. However, Danny Röhl's team demonstrated their title credentials as both Miovski and Chermiti scored again to put the game out of reach. Rangers have reclaimed second place, trailing leaders Hearts by one point, with Celtic two points further behind. This season, the Premiership's top three teams had only previously won on the same weekend once, a record Rangers were eager to maintain.
Chukwuani's contentious finish just before halftime sparked an incredible comeback. The home team appeared to stop in anticipation of a goal kick after Raskin's cross curled over the goalmouth seconds after Thelo Aasgaard hit the post.
However, the ball landed on the head of Djeidi Gassama, whose header hit the post before Chukwuani converted the rebound. Röhl's introduction of Bojan Miovski for Mikey Moore at the break was a crucial change. Gassama was moved to the left and won the ball on the edge of the Falkirk box with his low cross flicked home by Chermiti, who soon sliced a decent chance to put his team in front. Rangers had much more threat about them and they went in front in the 52nd minute.
Raskin ran round the outside of Aasgaard and hit the Norwegian's pass first time into the far corner. Chermiti missed another chance before Raskin set up Miovski to bundle home with a cross from the left.
Falkirk got a lifeline in the 70th minute when Miller netted from the spot after Tavernier had brought down Filip Lissah. But Raskin was involved again when Rangers restored their two-goal cushion, bursting forward before Chermiti netted after Gassama's shot was blocked.
The Belgian midfielder was eventually booked for a clash with Dylan Tait after earlier escaping yellow cards for a clear pull and embracing Rangers fans after his goal. Miovski rounded off the scoring two minutes from time when he converted Oliver Antman's low cross from close range. Rangers head coach Danny Röhl spoke to Sky Sports: "Our start was not well.
It was exactly what we'd expect and we struggled in the first 10-15 minutes with the pitch. "But outstanding reaction. We go, we focus on our job to do. "It's much easier to go in this small break with a win, of course, but the spirit is great and after the game you see the relationship, the connection between our supporters and the team.
"We are one team now and this is great. "Look back, four or five months ago I was in this situation here in Falkirk and today after the game [when Russell Martin was sacked]. "It shows a lot about our direction from the club and keep going, keep believing what the supporters told us and that's what we have to do. "
