Wakefield has surged to fourth place in the Betfred Super League, overtaking St Helens, after a resounding 34-0 win against their West Yorkshire rivals, Castleford. The team's success was fueled by Jake Trueman and Oliver Pratt, each scoring two tries. The game began with Trueman making a crucial tackle on Tom Weaver, preventing Castleford from scoring early. Shortly after, Trueman scored a try for Wakefield, reaching out to touch the ball down over the line. Although Jason Qareqare seemed to score for Castleford, his foot was out of bounds, and the try was disallowed. Wakefield then scored their second try through Corey Hall in the 20th minute. Trueman intercepted a pass, denying Sam Hall a try, and later, Tyson Smoothy scored after receiving an offload from Tray Lolesio, who had just entered the game. This put Wakefield 16-0 ahead at halftime. In the second half, Smoothy was denied another try due to a knock-on, but Wakefield extended their lead with a penalty from Max Jowitt. Jowitt then set up Pratt for an impressive finish in the corner in the 56th minute. Wakefield's Cam Scott scored his first try of the game, followed by Pratt's second, putting the team 30-0 ahead. Later, Pratt assisted Trueman in scoring the final try, securing Wakefield's fifth consecutive win in all competitions. This victory puts Wakefield level on points with the top teams, including Warrington, Leeds, Wigan, and St Helens. In contrast, Castleford's heavy loss drops them to the bottom of the standings, below York and Leigh, due to points difference.
