Gary Player Offers Support to Tiger Woods, But Urges Caution

Golf legends Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus have expressed their support for Tiger Woods, who is currently absent from the Masters tournament due to health issues. Woods, a 15-time major champion, has been dealing with the aftermath of a car crash and is seeking treatment. Player, who has been a long-time advocate for Woods, sympathized with his pain but emphasized the importance of safety, particularly when it comes to driving. 'If I or anyone in this room had to endure the kind of pain Tiger has been experiencing, we would understand his need for relief,' Player said. 'However, I strongly advise him against driving, as it can be hazardous, especially when taking medication.' Player suggested that Woods consider hiring a chauffeur to avoid any potential risks. Nicklaus, who holds the record for the most major championships, also sent a message of support to Woods, urging him to take the time he needs to recover and return to the sport when he is ready. The Augusta National chairman, Fred Ridley, also expressed his support for Woods' decision to prioritize his health and well-being. Woods has only participated in 11 official tournaments since November 2020 and has not made a competitive appearance since The Open in July 2024.
