Fernandez and Agent Offer Apology to Chelsea Over Comments About Future Plans

Enzo Fernandez and his representative have issued an apology to Chelsea following remarks made by the player during his time on international duty with Argentina. Fernandez expressed his enthusiasm for potentially residing in Madrid, which sparked speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid in the summer. However, no discussions have taken place regarding the sale of Fernandez, who is currently under contract with Chelsea until 2032. As a consequence of his comments, Chelsea's head coach, Liam Rosenior, announced that Fernandez would be excluded from the squad for two matches, including the victory over Port Vale and the upcoming game against Manchester City. Real Madrid has expressed interest in signing a midfielder during the summer transfer window, with Fernandez being one of their targets, valued at over £100m. Nevertheless, Chelsea has no intention of selling the player. Fernandez is among the players seeking improved contract terms with Chelsea, but his recent comments may have hindered his cause. In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Fernandez cast doubt over his future at Chelsea, stating 'I don't know' when asked if he would remain with the club next season. During his time with Argentina, Fernandez mentioned that he likes Madrid, comparing it to Buenos Aires, and admitted he would consider living in the city. Rosenior addressed the situation, stating that 'a line was crossed' in terms of the club's culture, resulting in the decision to sanction Fernandez. The player's agent, Javier Pastore, deemed the punishment 'completely unfair,' arguing that Fernandez did not express a desire to leave Chelsea. Pastore revealed that contract renewal discussions have stalled, with the club and player unable to reach an agreement. He emphasized that the decision not to renew the contract was due to the terms not being suitable for the player, and that they plan to revisit the discussion after the World Cup. Rosenior has since commented on the situation, stating that he and Fernandez are in a good place and that they will move forward, focusing on the remainder of the season.
