Britain Edges Closer to Billie Jean King Cup Finals with Stojsavljevic and Dart's Wins

Great Britain is on the cusp of securing a spot in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, thanks to impressive victories by Mika Stojsavljevic and Harriet Dart over Australia in Melbourne. Stojsavljevic, ranked 275th in the world, pulled off a stunning 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 win over world No 65 Talia Gibson on her Billie Jean King Cup debut, defying a 219-place difference in the WTA rankings. The 17-year-old's win, along with Dart's hard-fought 4-6 6-3 6-3 triumph over Kiimberly Birrell, has left Britain needing just one more win from the remaining three matches to qualify for the finals in Shenzhen, China. The victories are all the more impressive given the absence of key players Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Katie Boulter, and Fran Jones. Stojsavljevic, the 2024 US Open junior champion, credited the support from her team and the crowd for her success, saying, 'It feels amazing. I had amazing support from the side and managed to get through.' Dart will look to seal the tie for Britain when she teams up with Jodie Burrage in Saturday's doubles rubber against Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez.
