Korda Cuts Coughlin's Lead to Two Strokes at Aramco Championship

Lauren Coughlin maintains her lead at the Aramco Championship, but Nelly Korda has narrowed the gap to two strokes after her impressive performance on Saturday, where the challenging Shadow Creek course proved that pars are valuable scores. Korda finished strong with birdies on her last two holes, carding a 69 to move to five under par and claim second place. In contrast, Coughlin shot one over par with a 73, leaving her at seven under for the tournament, one of only five players with a score below par. Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Miyu Yamashita are currently three under par, while Leona Maguire is one under. Korda reflected on the course's difficulty, stating, "Shadow Creek has certainly lived up to its reputation over the last couple of days, proving to be brutally hard, especially on the back nine." Hyo Joo Kim's chances of extending her LPGA Tour winning streak to three have diminished after a disappointing start to her round, with two bogeys and a double bogey on the first three holes, resulting in a 79 and a tie for 17th place at four over par. The Aramco Championship, co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour and featuring a $4m purse, has attracted the world's top 20 players. Korda's performance this year is reminiscent of her exceptional 2024 season, where she won seven times and was named player of the year. After a victory and two second-place finishes in her first three tournaments this year, Korda expressed her satisfaction with her game, saying, "I'm just playing really good golf. I've always worked hard, but I'm proud of the effort I've put in over the past few weeks, and I feel refreshed and happy to compete." Coughlin, who last won in 2024, has demonstrated her familiarity with the Shadow Creek course, having almost won a match play event there last year. She emphasized the importance of strategic play, noting, "There are a few holes where you can make birdies, like the par fives, 11, and 12, so I'm trying to take advantage when I can and just holding on for dear life on the other holes."
