David Warner Faces Drink Driving Charges in Sydney

According to reports, Australian cricket great David Warner has been charged with drink driving in Sydney. New South Wales police confirmed that a 39-year-old man was stopped on Sunday night in Maroubra, Sydney, during a random breath test. The initial breath test yielded a positive result, and a subsequent test at the police station also came back positive. A statement from the New South Wales Police stated: "At approximately 5:30 pm, police conducted stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van allegedly stopped short of the testing site and parked. Officers approached the vehicle and administered roadside testing to the driver, a 39-year-old man, which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104." Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 to face charges of a 'middle-range' prescribed concentration of alcohol offense. This development comes as Warner, a long-time England rival in the Ashes, has retired from international cricket but continues to play in franchise leagues, currently captaining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. It was previously reported that he had been granted time at home over Easter but was set to rejoin his team ahead of their game against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, although it is unclear if he will participate in the fixture.
