Wakefield has jumped to fourth place in the Betfred Super League, surpassing St Helens, after a resounding 34-0 victory over their West Yorkshire rivals, Castleford. The win was fueled by Jake Trueman and Oliver Pratt, each scoring two tries. Trueman set the tone early with a decisive tackle on Tom Weaver, denying Castleford an initial scoring opportunity. He then scored at the other end, stretching to get the ball over the line. A potential score by Jason Qareqare was disallowed due to his foot being out of bounds, and Wakefield capitalized with their second try in the 20th minute, courtesy of Corey Hall in the corner. Trueman intercepted another pass, preventing Sam Hall from scoring, before Tyson Smoothy collected a pass from Tray Lolesio to score, putting Wakefield 16-0 ahead at halftime. Although Smoothy was denied a second try due to a knock-on, Wakefield continued to dominate. Max Jowitt kicked a penalty, then set up Pratt for an impressive finish in the corner in the 56th minute. Some swift teamwork allowed Cam Scott to score his first try, followed shortly by Pratt's second, extending Wakefield's lead to 30-0. Pratt then assisted Trueman in the 76th minute, sealing Wakefield's fifth consecutive win across all competitions. This victory puts Wakefield level on points with league leaders Warrington, as well as Leeds, Wigan, and Saints. Conversely, Castleford's heavy defeat drops them to the bottom of the standings, below York and Leigh, based on points difference.
