Spaun Secures Texas Open Victory as MacIntyre Falls Short of Forcing Playoff
JJ Spaun has claimed his second Valero Texas Open title, finishing one shot ahead of Robert MacIntyre and Matt Wallace. Spaun produced a remarkable back-nine surge, carding three birdies and an eagle to shoot a 5-under 67 and move to 17 under. MacIntyre, who had led for much of the week, slipped behind after a slow start to his final round and was unable to catch Spaun despite an eagle at the 17th. His challenge ended with an errant second shot at the 18th, and a birdie attempt that fell short, handing Spaun his first victory since last year's US Open triumph. Spaun, who had struggled to find form this season, credited his win to a change in approach, freeing himself from pressure and focusing on the present. MacIntyre and Wallace finished tied for second on 16 under, with Kim also joining them, while Ludvig Ã…berg and Andrew Putnam shared fifth place.
