She lost in straight sets to Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who won 7-6 (6-3) 7-6 (6-2) on Monday. Boulter struggled initially, being broken in her first two service games, but managed to level the score at 4-4 in the opening set. However, Ruse, ranked 25 spots below Boulter, took control of the tie-breaker and secured the first set. In the second set, Boulter failed to capitalize on her opportunities, and Ruse broke her serve to take the lead. Although Boulter saved a match point and forced another tie-breaker, she lost six consecutive points to end her tournament. Ruse will now face either Dayana Yastremska or Ann Li in the next round. The loss marks a disappointing beginning to Boulter's 2026 clay-court campaign.
