Carragher: Slot's Tactical Approach Was Woefully Inadequate

According to Jamie Carragher, Arne Slot's tactical decisions were "massively wrong" as Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. Carragher believes that Virgil van Dijk will be urging Slot not to use a back five again after the team's poor performance. Despite being outclassed, Liverpool's loss could have been even more severe, with Carragher suggesting it could have been "five or six" goals. The former Liverpool defender expressed concern over the significant gap in class between the two teams, particularly given Liverpool's substantial spending in the summer. Slot's decision to switch to a back five in an attempt to contain PSG's threat backfired, with Carragher feeling that the use of man-to-man marking left Van Dijk exposed. Carragher also sympathized with Van Dijk, stating that the player has been unfairly criticized this season and that playing alongside the struggling Ibrahima Konate has been challenging. Slot acknowledged that Liverpool were fortunate not to have lost by a greater margin and is relieved that the tie is still alive ahead of the second leg at Anfield.
