Currently, Liverpool occupies fifth place in the Premier League, narrowly ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea by a single point. However, the possibility of additional English teams participating in next year's Champions League remains, particularly if Aston Villa wins the Europa League and finishes outside the top four, thereby granting England six teams in the competition. The same scenario applies to Liverpool in the Champions League, and if either team wins a European trophy and finishes in fifth, sixth place would become a qualifying spot for the Champions League. Furthermore, if both teams win European trophies and finish in fifth and sixth, seventh place would also qualify for the Champions League. Nottingham Forest could also secure a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League. UEFA allocates an additional spot to two leagues, and with the Premier League guaranteed one of these spots, the competition for the second spot is underway, with Spain currently leading ahead of Germany and Portugal. Each nation's points are calculated based on the performance of its clubs in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, with wins worth two points, draws worth one point, and defeats worth no points. Bonus points are also awarded for finishing positions in the league phase tables and progress through each knockout round, with significantly higher bonus points awarded in the Champions League compared to the other competitions.
