Maguire Commits to Manchester United with New Contract

Manchester United's defender Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract with an option for an additional year, extending his stay at Old Trafford into an eighth season. Maguire, 33, believes the club is on an upward trajectory and is eager to be part of a successful campaign next season. 'It's amazing to be at this club for seven years, and now it's going to be eight,' Maguire said. 'A strong finish to the season is our focus now, to put us in a good position for next year, and then we need to make next year even better and more special.' Since Michael Carrick took charge, Maguire has been a constant presence, helping the club rise to third in the Premier League, and his recent form earned him an England recall. Maguire feels the club is in a good place and is convinced that United have turned the corner. 'I want to leave the club in a good place when I do leave, and that's the most important thing,' he said. 'It's not about me or individuals; it's about the team and the club.' Maguire's new contract comes after he earned an England recall and featured in both March internationals, raising hopes of making Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad. Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire, saying, 'Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.' Maguire has won the FA Cup and League Cup in his seven years at Old Trafford, making 266 appearances and scoring 17 goals. His new deal will take him into an eighth season at Man Utd, having joined from Leicester in August 2019 for a world-record fee of £80m for a defender.
