According to reports, renowned Australian cricketer David Warner has been charged with drunk driving in Sydney. New South Wales police have confirmed that a 39-year-old man was stopped on Sunday night in Maroubra, Sydney, during a random breath test. The initial breath test yielded a positive result, which was later confirmed by a second test at the police station. A statement from the New South Wales Police revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm on April 5, when police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra.
A van allegedly stopped short of the testing site and parked, prompting officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command to approach the vehicle and administer a roadside test, which returned a positive result. The driver, a 39-year-old man, was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly yielded a reading of 0.104. Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7 to face charges of a 'middle-range' prescribed concentration of alcohol offense, just days before the PSL final on May 3 in Lahore.
Having retired from international cricket in 2024, Warner continues to play in the franchise circuit and is currently captaining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. Although he had been granted time at home over Easter, it is unclear whether he will participate in the upcoming game against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday.
